Spring Ballerinas from Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School
Once again we made it through another spring and another set of portraits for the dancers.
My daughter is in the Student Division at Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School. She’s been dancing with PBT since she was 4 when she declared on a regular basis that she wanted to be “a real ballerina-like Angelina” one day. She’s since moved on from idolizing a storybook dancing mouse to idolizing her teachers and the company dancers with the Pittsburgh Ballet. For me, as a parent, I love that she sees the dedication of the professional dancers around her. It’s most seen during each year’s Nutcracker performance where they will take time to encourage the younger dancers (some of them on stage for the first time). So I’m happy that we chose this school years ago. I’m happy to see my daughter and her classmates developing not only as dancers but as athletes as well.
If you are considering a dance program for your child, definitely look at PBT.

It’s my annual labor of love to photograph my daughter and several of her classmates. Each year I find a mix of new and old dancers who join me in the studio and show off all that they’ve learned this year. We even had a few this year who were just starting pointe, so there were those special images of the first pair of pointe shoes too.
What I love even more about these, is that I learn more each year. I am a non-dancer. I know very little about ballet. My daughter loves to mock me when I mispronounce steps or positions. I laugh right along with her but I’m trying. And each year I learn more terms and have more specific ideas for the dancers to try.
So here are this year’s dancers…
Finally, my girl.
