Strip District Family Portraits
A strip district family portrait session in downtown Pittsburgh, providing an urban look for the family that wants something different from the typical portrait session in a park.

Getting that annual family photo can become more of a chore but it doesn’t have to be! Lots of people like to keep things the same, familiar with their photo sessions but I love to encourage my clients to consider something different when planning their session. Location can be the perfect chance to add some new life to the same ol’ family photo session.
When this family contacted me for their annual session, they were ready for something different. In the past, we’ve had their photography sessions in a few of the beautiful parks that we have here, just north of Pittsburgh. I suggested trying something downtown for a change. They loved the idea so then it was time to decide on what kind of downtown look for their session. Pittsburgh is special. There are so many great spaces in town. There’s the Point and the North Shore for a more park-style setting with the city in the background. There’s the Cultural District with its unique arts buildings and parks. And there’s one of my favorite spots, the Strip District with a more industrial feel. For this session, we decided the Strip District would be a great spot. Check out their first session with me and see the difference with locations!
And this is what you do when you have a really tall dad! I loved that they had fun with this!
And when I have these sessions, I always try to get a few with just mom and dad. For some couples, they haven’t had photos like this since their wedding!
The right location can really add to the overall look of your photography session. It can give you a creative direction for clothing choices or mood, or just provide a little inspiration.
