Oakland Tween Portrait Session with Siblings

When this family contacted me to schedule these Oakland tween portraits for their son and daughter, I was so excited to have the opportunity to work with them!  They were so much fun to work with!  Yes, I’m sure they drive their parents crazy at times (as all kids do at times) but you could just tell that they care for each other throughout their session.

What’s a Tween?

The tween years are those years between kid and teenager.  Starting at about 10 years old until 13.  It’s that challenging time when they crave more independence as parents struggling with knowing they’re not their little ones anymore.

And I believe it’s a perfect time to document that transition.  One last chance to capture those remaining little bits of the child they were and the glimpses of the adult that they’re slowly transitioning into.

Walking Around Oakland

The Oakland area of Pittsburgh is such a great location for any portraits.  The busy streets, cool buildings, and even the green space around Pitt and CMU.  In such a small area there is access to so many great spots for portraits and with this tween brother and sister, we found a nice variety.

After a few at Mellon, we decided to walk down Craig Street for a bit.  This is my favorite part of the session.  I knew I had a good number of shots but I like to take some time to explore and find new locations.  I knew one spot I wanted and then discovered another spot in an alley that worked so well for these kids.

I couldn’t have asked for a more cooperative and fun brother and sister!

I say it again and again because I believe it in my heart- this age passes by so fast.  I love photographing tweens!  At this age, they’ll still hold hands and skip and act silly!  This stage is just as important to document as those first steps and first smiles.

Contact me and let’s talk about documenting your tween!
