I mentioned a few weeks ago that my own boy was turning 10 and celebrated with tons of Minecraft and a rocket launch. That was the fun part of the birthday. Next, we needed to do the 10 yr portrait session. Unlike my daughter, who loves the camera and indulges her mother when she needs a model, my son has limited patience for pictures. I can usually get him to give me five or ten minutes (if it’s a good day). I also have very limited input on what he chooses to wear anymore, including outfits for the pictures. He is no longer interested in dressing up, ever and mama will be in big trouble if she suggests wearing something uncomfortable.
I’ve finally learned that after 10 years parenting this boy, I need to pick my battles and be as flexible as possible and if I do that, he’ll work with me.
This year, I decided to give him a say in our location. It was pretty simple- downtown or out in the park. He quickly chose downtown commenting that he considers himself to be more of a city kid. I was secretly thrilled because I was hoping to play more in my new favorite location. So we were off, me and my downtown tween.
As you can see, it worked out pretty well!
After a few in his new favorite Star Wars t-shirt, I persuaded him to put on one of his nicer shirts. (This was in itself a huge success because we don’t like to change clothes randomly in the middle of the day)
I can’t believe how this young man is growing and I’m looking forward to documenting the coming years.
Finally, here’s a look at how he’s changed.
Tween sessions are so much fun and a great way to show you’re tween that they’re special. Contact me to discuss your tween photography session!
