models ~ reps ~ assistants

Welcome to the Jodi Walsh Photography model, rep, and assistant program! I'm really looking forward to getting to know you, hopefully teaching you a bit about photography, and working together to try new things and create some beautiful images!

But first, what is the model, rep, and assistant program?

I'm creating opportunities for those who are interested in photography both in front of and behind the camera. Are you interested in trying out modeling? Sign up to be on my model list and have the opportunity to participate in creative and fun sessions together! Do you love modeling and social media, and would love the opportunity to work with me on a regular basis? Check out my Rep program! Do you prefer being behind the scenes and learning more about lighting and other aspects of photography? Try out being an assistant!

JWP models

As an artist, I'm constantly brainstorming ideas for images or finding new techniques that I'm eager to test out. Model calls are great but social media is unreliable and it can be hard to plan and hope for someone to see my post in the timeframe I need to work through my idea. I'm creating an email list of individuals interested in working with me occasionally or on a more regular basis. When I have a shoot ready, I'll email the list and we can plan from there.

what to expect?

For those who sign up, I'll send out an email with details for the session- ideal date/time for scheduling, location, and a quick description of what I'm trying to achieve. If there are any wardrobe requirements, those will also be included.

Model sessions are free. There are no session fees for models. Models will receive a web-sized profile image, a social media cover photo, and a 3-image social media reel. Prints, products, or additional digital files can be purchased after your session from your personal gallery.

Anyone can sign up to be on the list and models will be selected primarily on a first-come, first-served basis.

You (or a parent if under 18) will need to sign a model release for each session you participate in. The images created in these sessions are intended to be used on social media as well as my website for the specific purpose of marketing my business. As with my other web images, I don't use names to try to maintain some privacy.

other questions

is there an age requirement?

No, there is no age limit for signing up to be on my model list. Most sessions will be flexible with all ages welcome to participate. However, occasionally I might need specific ages for promoting specific sessions or to model specific clothing. I'll share those details in the model call email.

can i sign up for more than one model session?

Yes! I'm happy to work with the same models over multiple sessions and it will give us the opportunity to get comfortable with each other. If you know that you are interested in doing multiple model sessions, consider becoming a rep.

can i wear whatever i want?

This will depend on the session. In each model call email, I'll explain the details of the session I'm trying to create. For most sessions, there won't be outfit requirements but possibly some suggestions for certain looks that I would like to have. I will not have you buy any clothing or accessories specifically for a model session. Now, I will need to know what you're planning on wearing because that's a big part of how I visualize the images I'm creating. A quick photo by text or even a written description will work just fine.

JWP reps

Reps are the next level up from models. Reps get to do more and get more in return for their work with me. Reps are considered representatives of the Jodi Walsh Photography brand. Their purpose is to introduce others to Jodi Walsh Photography. They commit to 3 model sessions throughout the year and use their social media to share their images and experience working with me.

what to expect?

There are two components to becoming a JWP rep. The first step is to complete a quick application. Then we'll plan a quick interview with a brief model session to gauge how you are in front of the camera. This step can also be done by participating in a model session. Rep candidates must have an Instagram account and be willing to share images from your sessions there. Applications for 2023 reps will be accepted until May 31st.

Reps will have the first opportunity to sign up for model sessions. The sessions are free. Prints, products, and additional digital files can be purchased after your session from your gallery store.

Just like for the models, you (or a parent if under 18) will need to sign a model release for each session you participate in. The images created in these sessions are intended to be used on social media and my website for the specific purpose of marketing my business. As with my other web images, I don't use names to try to maintain some privacy.

You will also be able to refer people to me. For each referred client who books a session, you'll receive a $25 credit to put towards purchases in your gallery store or to put towards a future portrait session with me. (no cash value)

what do you get?

more time in front of the camera to develop your skills for posing and expressions

social media images for sharing

- profile photo

- cover image

- reel of images with video clips

after each model session, you'll receive a thank-you goodie bag full of treats

and your final session will include a special photo gift

and as the first group to be part of this new adventure, there might be some other fun treats throughout the year!

other questions

is there an age requirement?

Yes, but I can be flexible. Ideally, my reps are high school students up to young adults with social media accounts. As a rep, you are committing not just to photo sessions but also to sharing the images we create and helping others who are looking for photographers to find me. If you don't fit into that age range, we can discuss whether this is a good fit for you.

how many reps can sign up?

I will be accepting only 3 reps for the 2023 year. If this is something you're considering, you'll want to start the application process quickly.

what if i can't complete 3 model sessions?

While I really hope we can find time o do 3 sessions, I know that life and the weather sometimes make things more challenging. If you don't complete 3 sessions then you don't receive the final special gift.

Yes, please!

JWP assistants

Do you feel like you're more comfortable behind the camera rather than in front of the camera? I can completely sympathize with that. Are you interested in learning about photography- lighting? working with subjects? setting up gear? Then consider applying to be my assistant.

This is an opportunity that has been created for a high school student who is interested in learning about photography- setting up gear, evaluating lighting situations, and working with subjects.

what to expect?

Assistants will have the opportunity to help out with model shoots with the option of being brought in to help with client shoots in the future. Interested individuals need to complete the application and submit 5 photographs as well as an interview.

For most of the session, the assistant will be responsible for carrying gear, including reflectors, flashes, and other light modifiers. Assistants may also be asked to take stills or video clips of the session for social media purposes.

what do you get?

the opportunity to learn portrait photography

- posing

- lighting

as assistants get more comfortable with the sessions, they'll have opportunities to take their own photos

and build a portfolio of their own images.

mentoring not only in photography but also in building a business

other questions

do i have to know anything about photography?

No, not at all. This is a learning opportunity and we all have to start somewhere. On your first session, you'll simply need to be able to carry things, hold things, and get things. If you like working with me and we work more sessions together, you'll be able to start learning more specific things about photography (but there's a lot that you can pick up by just watching too).

how many assistants will you have?

High school students have very busy schedules. I totally get that. For each session, I only need one assistant but I would like to have 2 to 3 who are willing to work with me so that I'm more likely to have someone available.

can you hire me as your assistant for real?

Currently, I'm testing this out as a learning/mentoring opportunity. This is not a paid position. Assistants will not be working with me on client shoots. However, if assisting with model sessions goes well, there is the possibility of working as a paid assistant for future client sessions.

kind words

"We are so delighted with our daughter's senior photos. Jodi was really flexible and patient with us as we had lots of questions even before the photo shoot. She made everything seem easy, and even in a busy location, made my daughter feel like the only one there. She not only captured the ideas we had for photos but also found many other beautiful moments we never anticipated."
