Small Town family session

Small towns are such special places and can be the perfect back drop for a portrait session, especially when you manage an unseasonably warm day in December.  I’ve been fortunate to have photographed this family each year over the past several years and I love that they keep coming back to me.  It gives me the opportunity to watch the kids grow.  And while the little ones keep me on my toes, they also give me the best expressions as you’ll see in this blog.

This is exactly why I encourage all of my clients, whether you choose me or another photographer, find someone you relate well to and then stay with them.  With each session your family will connect more with the photographer and it will result in better, more authentic images.

Each year that I photograph this family, I see the kids becoming more and more comfortable with me.  And that level of comfort lets me fit in with their family rather than being the stranger who tells them how to stand and where to look.

Posed Portraits and a bit of LifeStyle

For this session, mom was interested in doing something different from the usual park session.  So we decided to walk the streets of Sewickley, Pa.  We looked in windows, checked out Santa’s empty seat in the gazebo, and ended with some coffee and cake pops.  All the while there were plenty of places for the little ones to explore but also some beautiful and unexpected spots for photos.

As you can see, small-town streets and Starbucks can be great spots for capturing your family!  This is one of the things I love about on-location photography- every session is an adventure.  I don’t always know what I’m going to find.  I walk my locations before my clients arrive and get ideas but then as we explore together, I find new things.  Your session is unique to you and your family and how we are in the moment!

Does this sound like the kind of photography session you would enjoy?  No pressure, exploring, adventurous?  Give me a call and let’s start planning.  No need to wait for flowers to bloom or leaves to grow.  We can find beautiful backdrops anywhere!  Just trust me 🙂
