A bonus of being a photographer is getting to be the one who captures those first moments of your friends becoming parents.  I was so excited when this couple announced that they were expecting and even more pleased when they wanted me to capture images of their brand new baby boy.  Of course, I knew this new baby boy was coming in November.  I just didn’t expect so many other sessions to be scheduled all around the same time.  I was spinning for quite a bit.  But fortunately, I was ready for them to come and check out my little studio space I’ve created in my home.

My newborn sessions are meant to be simple and relaxed.  I want the focus to be on this beautiful new person with only a few wrap and blanket options for color.

Don’t let all of those sleeping images fool you.  This little guy was very alert and very busy.  It took us quite a while to get him to settle and sleep but then this is what I expect with my newborns.  All babies are different and they often do things in their own time (my first born taught me that and continues to remind of me of it on an almost daily basis).  My job is to be calm and patient and to do what I can to help baby to be content.  Sometimes that means taking time to capture those beautiful bright eyes.  Sometimes it means giving mom and dad some extra feeding and changing time.  It almost always means thinking on my feet, trying new things, adjusting when something isn’t going to work.

But hopefully, you’ll agree that the patience pays off in the end.
