“The most wonderful fairy tale is life itself” -Hans Christian Anderson
Danny Kaye introduced me to The Little Mermaid through Hans Christian Anderson. Yes, I was still very much a kid when the animated version came out but thanks to my mom (and White Christmas), I was already a fan of Danny Kaye and as he walked through Copenhagen, singing the tales that drew all the children around him, I felt like I was there too. Even at that early age, I was drawn to the storyteller. It’s seemed natural to work towards bringing that storytelling and imagination and play into my photography.
Storybook sessions are designed to encourage playing to pretend, whether you’re a child or an adult. We’re happier when we can use our imaginations. When we can change the world from what it is, to what we wish it could be. With storybook sessions, it’s about the combination of the costume and accessories and location and then what I can do with my camera. And at the end, you walk away not only with some special images but also an experience and hopefully, memories your child will never forget.
A Pittsburgh Mermaid?
When you think of mermaids, you imagine beaches and crashing waves, possibly even a shipwreck. Not exactly the images that come to mind when thinking of Pittsburgh but there are special places where you can imagine a mermaid and I happened to stumble upon such a place the other day.
Do you have a little mermaid? a fairy princess? a superhero? a wizard? Then let’s plan a storybook session for your child! We’ll work together to come up with a great costume, accessories, and location to create some magic together.
