Portraits for the Artistic or Creative Senior

Choosing a location is one of the most challenging decisions when planning senior portraits.  As your photographer and guide through this process, I love to share a variety of options and if a senior needs more than one spot, I’ll do all I can to make it work.  This Avonworth senior wanted her portraits in a park along with a place with lots of colors to fit her more artistic side.  Right away I knew Schenley Park and the Color Park would fit her perfectly.  She agreed!

The Magic of Portraits at Schenley

Schenley Park was one of my first portrait locations when I started years ago.  Walking down into Panther Hollow can be so magical with all of the greenery, rocky bridges, and the little creeks that wind their way through the park.  It fit this creative senior perfectly.

We started out on the upper part of the park.

We made our way down into Panther Hollow and had our first outfit change by the lake.

With the first outfit being so casual and cute (I could almost imagine her in a studio, painting), her second outfit was perfect for the lake and then the outdoor garden at Phipps.

The Creative Color Park

After our photos at Phipps, it was time to head toward the second location.  The Color Park was easy to get to after Schenley because it’s just across the river.

From the first time I saw photos of this place, I wanted to have a session here.

If you’ve never been to the Color Park, it’s a stretch of parking lot type area near the South Side along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail that runs along the Monongahela River.  There are a number of cement barriers and walls and a few picnic tables all covered with brilliantly colored graffiti.  It’s color and trees along with a view of downtown and the 10th Street Bridge.

We had one more outfit change and then started exploring the park.

*and notice the bug on her t-shirt- she designed it and turned it into a decal for the shirt!
