Frick Park

Frick Park is one of the prettiest parks you’ll find in Pittsburgh. Located on the east side of the city between Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze, and Wilkensburg, it’s easy to get to, and with woods, hills, grassy fields, and stone walls, it’s a perfect location for senior portraits.

I started visiting Frick Park back when I was in college (no need to mention when that was), and I’ll admit, I got lost there once while on a bike ride. Long story short, we almost ended up attempting to ride a bike on the Parkway East.  So yes, it’s a big park with lots of trails winding through the Pittsburgh hills.  In addition to walking trails, you’ll find tennis courts, a baseball field, Fern Hollow Creek, the Frick Environmental Center, Blue Slide Park, and probably lots more.

For portrait sessions, I’ve tended to stick to the area near Reynolds Street. Because it’s so big and easy to get lost in, it’s not really good for just wandering during a portrait session, and instead, requires a bit more of a plan.

Reynolds Street is a great spot to meet my portrait clients because it has plenty of free street parking and has some easy trails to follow into the park. It also has the stone gatehouse, a 70-year-old structure marking one of the entrances to the park, and a beautiful spot for photos year-round.

The Frick Museum

Across the street from this entrance to Frick Park, you’ll find the Frick Museum and Gardens.  You must pay to enter the museum, but the outside space and gardens are open to the public.

What do I love about The Frick?  There are so many pretty spots that work with both formal and casual outfits.  I love the front doors with their dark wood, columns, and steps.  The greenhouse is full of flowers year-round.  The patio area is another favorite spot with bright white walls and tables.

And if you ever have the chance, The Cafe at Frick has wonderful treats and drinks.  I highly recommend the afternoon tea!

The Frick Museum and Frick Park are great locations for seniors who are looking for a wide variety without having to travel far.
