Hey Tween! Are you a country girl or a city chick?
This is one of the first questions that I ask all of my tween girls when we start to plan their tween photography session. For many, it’s a simple choice and the best way to get the creative juice flowing, so to speak, and help my tween (and often her mom) start envisioning the style of their session.
When I started talking with this young lady and her mom, they right away said “downtown.” So we met up in my current favorite “downtown” spot- the Strip District- where when the wind blows just right, you get that heavenly smell from Peace, Love and Little Donuts.

Downtown Tween
- Session type: Tween
- Subject: Tween girl, Avonworth School District
- Location: Strip District, Pittsburgh
I loved her casual style! It fit so perfectly with the warehouse backdrop! And look at those gorgeous eyes!
This young lady was a complete natural at posing!
Then it was time for a quick change. What makes these sessions even more fun for the girls (especially the girls) is that I make sure that they plan 2 looks. This way mom can have a little more influence for one of the looks and the star can call all the shots for the second look.
A little attitude can be fun in the your session! She was a master of the serious, I-mean-business look.
And a city session would not be complete without the skyline shot!
We took some time to walk the streets and alleys a little. This girl was such a good sport, shooting with me in a alley with trash-filled dumpsters just
upwind of us. Yes, the city can be smelly sometimes.
Do you have a child quickly approaching those scary teen years? Are they growing inches seemingly overnight? Have the attitudes and eye-rolls become an almost daily occurrence? You might have a tween and instead of fearing what’s to come, take a moment to celebrate them and show them how special they are! Let’s plan a tween session together and give them an experience (and images) they won’t forget!
